Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Intermediate Land Use Planner to join our interdisciplinary design team and carry out all aspects of land use planning and to complete complex planning activities within Calgary and the surrounding region. Working within our organization and supporting our land development, transportation, and legal survey services, you will be responsible for preparing proposals, designs, planning applications, public engagement, and facilitating approvals. Your role will be pivotal to assist our land development and transportation clients maintain momentum on projects of varying size and complexity through the planning approval process. A focus on practical and implementable solutions for our clients is essential and critical to project success and client satisfaction. Commitment to continuous improvement and excellent client service are fundamental.
Responsibilities
- Project and Client Management: Provide concept-to-approval planning services for a wide range of land development and transportation projects. Develop productive working relationships with existing clients and prospective clients.
- Urban Design, Planning, and Placemaking: Preparation and submission of planning applications including subdivision, land use bylaw amendments, and statutory plan amendments.
- Cost-Effective Solutions: Provide clients with proactive, cost-effective, long-term solutions. Preparation of cost estimates for public and private projects.
- Public Engagement: Preparation and execution of public engagement plans, including event design, hosting, facilitation, and reporting.
- Proposal Preparation: Actively participate in the development of proposals.
- Business Development: Engage with existing clients and assist with cultivation of new clients.
- Professional Development: Pursue ongoing education and training and participation with industry organizations.
- Business Support: Support other business lines as required based on workload and availability.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Planning, a related degree, or an equivalent level of training and experience.
- A minimum of three years of increasingly responsible professional consulting planning experience, with preference given to candidates with more experience.
- Membership in the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) and the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) as a full Registered Professional Planner (RPP).
- Membership or training through the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) will be considered an asset.
- Public engagement experience and the ability to manage public and media interactions confidently and professionally.
- Experience in transportation planning and analysis is considered an asset.
- Analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Read and work with planning documents, legal survey plans, and engineering drawings.
- Multi-task, self-sufficient, works well under pressure, and willingness to take on new tasks.
- Work independently and in a team environment.
- Experience with GIS software is considered an asset.
- Experience with ACAD and Civil 3D is considered an asset.
- Past history with transportation planning is an asset.
- Relevant experience with the City of Calgary, Rocky View County, and other Alberta municipalities is considered an asset.
- MS Office skills, specifically the ability to work with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, including knowledge and skills working with PDF editor software.
- Supply their own reliable vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions
- This role would be Full Time (40 hours per week)
- Our team works primarily full-time from our office. However, we prioritize employee satisfaction and work-life balance. When possible, we can offer remote working options and flexible hours. These options are subject to workload, departmental needs, and their impact on the team
- Occasional travel and overtime, including weekends, may be required
