Rural Transportation Engineer

Job Description

We are actively seeking a Rural Transportation Engineer or Engineer-in-Training, with skills in project management who is looking for an opportunity to expand their experience and responsibility combined with exposure to a wide variety of transportation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver projects through pursuit, planning, design, and construction phases.
  • Prepare designs, design drawings, contract documents, engineering specifications and cost estimates for integrated municipal roadway, transit facilities and active transportation facilities projects.
  • Coordinate and facilitate construction activities, QA/QC testing and reporting, construction layout, quantity tracking, contractor management, regulatory compliance, and as-built information.
  • Prepare correspondence, proposals, engineering reports, specifications, and meeting minutes.
  • Assist and lead the development and management of budgets and schedules.
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team of sub-consultants including land acquisition, structural, electrical and environmental.
  • Liaise with clients, project team members, other stakeholders, and the public regarding projects.
  • Communicate and work in an integrated team environment to ensure project schedules, budgets, technical standards, and quality control standards are achieved and maintained.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in transportation engineering.
  • Must be registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA.
  • Experience with roadway design and construction (alignments, geometrics, staging, utilities, roadside safety, quantity calculations, contract documents and constructability).

Qualifications

  • Excellent technical, analytical, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills.
  • A commitment to achieving deadlines, excellence, and high-quality work with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills to balance the delivery of multiple projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft 365, Civil 3D (asset), and Synchro (asset).
  • Applied knowledge of published standards and guidelines from national, provincial, and municipal governments and associations.

Working Conditions

  • Full Time (40 hours per week)
  • Our team works primarily full-time from our office. However, we prioritize employee satisfaction and work-life balance. When possible, we can offer remote working options and flexible hours. These options are subject to workload, departmental needs, and their impact on the team. 
  • Occasional travel and overtime, including weekends, may be required.

  • Work at a desk for extended periods of time
